There are a lot of things going on in America that are causing a lot of people to become vocal. There are huge things happening – any one of which would be a big deal in and of itself, but the fact that they’re all piled on top of each other? This has been quite the eventful week on Facebook. And everyone has an opinion, right? From the #Emanuel9 to the Confederate Flag to the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage. Lots of headlines. Lots of opinions.
The problem is, too many (Christians and non-Christians alike) are simply shouting loud in order for their own opinions to rise to the top. And I get it…hello, I have a blog. But maybe we should all take a step back and listen to THE voice on all matters. Instead of shouting and arguing and stirring the pot and voicing opinion after opinion….maybe we should let Jesus speak, let His doctrine speak. Nothing we say ultimately means anything, unless we are saying the same things that God says. So on all of these issues and more, let’s only hear the Word of God, and then let’s do the hard part and adhere to the teachings.

“Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate” (Matthew 19:4-6).
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness…For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” (Romans 1:18, 26-32).
“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).
“For there is no partiality with God” (Romans 2:11).
“But if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors” (James 2:9)
“…the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work…”(1 Peter 1:17).
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28).
“For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Galatians 5:14)
“Let all that you do be done with love” (1 Corinthians 16:14).
“I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.” (Romans 14:14-15, 19).
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea” (Mark 9:42).
“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one” (Colossians 4:6).
“But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife” (2 Timothy 2:23).
“But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless” (Titus 3:9)
“We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).
