My favorite person in the entire world was born 28 years ago today. This is the 8th birthday I’ve spent with him, and each one keeps getting better than the last. I am beyond grateful to God for giving life to this man, and then for putting him in my life. In the last 8 years, Robert has helped me to grow into the child of God that I am called to be. I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am without his help, reassurance, and knowledge of the Bible that he imparts to me not only every Sunday, but all throughout the week as I get to see him live his convictions day in and day out.
In my BR days (before Robert) – I was quite a lot. Really, I was a mess. But, Robert has always been great at seeing potential, and there has never been a day in my life since meeting him that I have felt anything less than love and respect. Every day, he shows me a beautiful picture of Christ, just like he’s supposed to (Eph. 5). He shows me forgiveness and honor and preference. He is sacrificial and respectful and loving. He is everything a spouse is supposed to be, which leaves me wondering what on earth I did to deserve such a godly man.
We are all human, meaning we are all flawed. I thank God regularly that I married this flawed man, because he continually strives to rid himself of flaws. He apologizes freely. He loves deeply. He seeks to be considerate of all those around him. He helps. He works hard (all the time!). He stumbles, sure, but he works extra hard to overcome the things he knows need to be changed. What an encouragement and incredible example he is to me. I am beyond blessed to be married to this man.
As wonderful as our marriage is, as wonderful as my amazing husband is, none of it would be possible without our amazing God. I only have the marriage I do because God has shown us how. I only have the marriage I do because Christ taught us how to forgive and love. Thanks be to God for giving us a guide for how to have the best life on earth possible.
Happy birthday, Robert. You are the greatest blessing in my life.
