Approaching Royalty

When it was announced that Will and Kate would be coming to America to visit, journalists were abuzz about all things British Monarchy for quite some time. You might have heard something about the guidelines given by the Royal Communications group for journalists who wished to cover any of the formal events surrounding the Duke and Duchess.

It’s interesting to me that, “out of respect for the Queen and her guests” members of the media are required to dress nicely, otherwise they will not be permitted access to the royal couple. Perhaps the reason it’s so interesting to me is because people create quite a fuss when it comes to what we wear to worship when approaching the True Royal – the Maker of the Universe!

Today’s episode of The Royal Family Podcast is about just that: what we wear and why we wear it. Are there Scriptures that tell us exactly what to wear, such as ‘thou shalt always wear a floor length skirt?’ Not so much. However, if we’ll examine the principles of Scripture (and our hearts), we will find the answers we need. Perhaps we’ll even find some things we don’t need in our hearts.

You can listen to today’s episode by going to the iTunes store and searching for either The Light Network, The Royal Family Podcast, or Emily Hatfield. Or, you can just click here to be taken to The Light Network’s website.

HERE’S AN EXCERPT FROM TODAY’S EPISODE:

“I do think we need to examine our hearts when it comes to the clothes we wear to worship the Almighty God. If our hearts are more inclined to show honor with our clothes when we approach humans – like the Queen or Will and Kate or a celebrity, or when attending a funeral for a loved one or the wedding of a friend – if we’re more inclined to show honor through our outfits in those moments than we are when we go before God to offer our worship, something might be wrong with our hearts.”

    • God absolutely looks at our hearts! However, clothing has always been important to God. For example, he covered Adam and Eve with animal skins in the garden because the fig leaves weren’t proper. He made guidelines for the priests so that their nakedness would not be exposed when they went before Him in the temple. These are just two examples, but I think they show that the heart is absolutely most important, but a heart right with God will also lead us to obeying His guidelines.
