I Am Resolved

One of my favorite songs to sing begins this way, “I am resolved no longer to linger, charmed by the world’s delights.” That’s exactly how I want 2014 to start and end: no longer lurking around sin, being charmed by Satan’s schemes. That is why I have established some resolutions to this end, and am posting them here for personal accountability as well as accountability from you.

I’ve decided to break my list down into four categories: Spiritual, Family, Personal, Physical. The following is just a sampling, though, as I have more personal goals as well. I hope you will join me in resolving to be better for Him in 2014. And, if you want an accountability partner, you can email me at emily@emilyhat.com!

Spiritual:

My main resolution for 2014 is to be a daily Bible reader, giving all diligence to my studies (2 Tim.2:15). There is no excuse for not letting God speak to me each and every day, and I resolve this year to open the Book more! May I challenge you to the same resolution? One of the things I will be doing is reading through the New Testament at least 4 times this year. Surely we can all do that, right?

Family:

As the keeper of my home (Titus 2:5), it is my duty to make sure all things are running well, patterning the majority of my responsibilities after the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31. This year I am making it my aim to plan ALL of our meals at least one week in advance and to be a better steward of our resources by couponing.

Personal:

It is my aim this year to have new posts for you at least 3x a week. I have been pretty spotty this year, with the number of posts at 7 for multiple months! No excuses this year. We’re going to dig into the Word and keep the conversation going, because I am not ashamed of what this beautiful Book has to say (Rom.1:16).

Physical:

Clearly, it’s not all about this, which is why it is last. But, my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19), and bodily exercise does have some profit. And so, it is my aim to be running 2 solid miles by December. It may not seem like a lofty goal, but I HATE running. And I’ve never been a distance runner (tennis and volleyball don’t require long jaunts of running). So, this year, I plan to become a runner…even if I hate every step. And hey, maybe I can listen to some podcasts while I’m out =)

What are some of your goals? It’s good to have them. You don’t have to make a promise or resolution, but setting our sights a little higher than they were in 2013 is probably a good idea. We all have room to improve (some of us have a LOT of room—yeah, that one’s to me). So, here’s hoping we can all accomplish our goals in 2014. After all, Christ will strengthen us to accomplish His will (Phil. 4:13).

Happy 2014! And thanks for stopping by! Hey, you could make that a resolution….

Just kidding! =)
