Robert’s Best Feature

Everyone has those momentous days in their relationships. Mine and Robert’s day happens to be today – February 24th – for it was on this day 6 years ago that he became my boyfriend. There have been tons of ups and downs from February 24th, 2008 to today, but one thing has remained the same: Robert is the best person I know, and the greatest thing to ever happen to me.

Today, in thinking back about all that we’ve experienced together, one certain feature sticks out in my mind. And let me tell you, I have learned lots of things about him in the last 6 years. Still, there’s this one thing that makes him so very remarkable to me.

A lot of people out there have their favorite things about someone: their eyes, their smile, their strong muscles! But my favorite thing about Robert, well, it might be a little weird. You see, my favorite thing about my amazing husband is his feet.

Paul quoted the prophet Isaiah when he penned Romans 10:15,

And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

The thing about Robert that I have always and will always love the most is that he is a proclaimer of the good news of Jesus Christ. Sure, he’s kind and hilarious and caring and considerate and polite and charming and a host of other positive attributes all rolled into one incredible individual, but the fact that he loves God so much that he spends all of his time doing the Lord’s work is what makes him so very special. And, it’s his feet that have helped me so much in the last six years. If he weren’t intent on doing all that he possibly can for the Kingdom, I wouldn’t be who I am today. I wouldn’t have half of the knowledge or confidence or zeal that I have. I wouldn’t have such positive influences – not only in him, but in all of the wonderful people I’ve met because I’m Robert Hatfield’s wife.

I love and respect my husband so very much because he loves and respects our Lord so very much, and he ceaselessly encourages me to be better for Him. I am so thankful for my husbands feet, and the beautiful way he preaches Jesus to so many people. But especially because he always preaches Jesus to me, just in the way he lives everyday.

I love you, Robert, and I love your feet. Thank you for being such a remarkable human being. =)

  1. Thank you for sharing Emily! Your blog is a wonderful mix of your real life-physical and spiritual world. It teaches, motivates, and encourages in so many ways. So many of us know you far better than we ever would because of your blog and more importantly, so many of us have the blessing of growing spiritually because of your thoughts, words, teachings, reflections, and presentation of God’s Word through everyday life situations. It was so wonderful to assemble with you and Robert and all the brethren this weekend at the Christian Servants Day! Yes, you and East Hill are blessed to have the spiritual leader you have in Robert-a very talented song leader, very dedicated Christian servant, and bold, loving, sound proclaimer of God’s Word! You two, and many others there at Easy Hill do so much good for the Kingdom of Christ! Thank you all for your selfless devotion. To God be the Glory! May others see your good works and glorify our Father in Heaven!
