MORP

On Saturday, I had one of the most encouraging days I’ve had in a long time. You see, on Saturday, I got to spend the entire afternoon and evening with four of the teenage girls from East Hill at our first annual MORP!

So what is MORP? Well, it’s an alternative to prom. It’s a time for us to Maintain Our Righteous Priorities. It’s a time to go against what the world tells us is cool and fun and worthwhile, and to be holy and sanctified and different. After all, that’s exactly what God expects of His children—and not just His children who are older and more mature. But of every person who has put on Christ–young or old. He requires that we be different.

Saturday was amazing, not simply because I got to feel like a teenager again, laughing and giggling and acting ridiculous. It was an amazing day because I watched four girls choose to spend the day with their Bible class teacher, taking silly photos, and playing with blow up whales, instead of parading around in skimpy clothes and dancing inappropriately.

To say that I am proud of these girls is an understatement. They are remarkable! Every Sunday morning I am blown away at their insight and dedication to God. Every week I am inspired by their modest choices and inquiring minds. Saturday was no exception. I am so proud of these girls for all that they stand for, and I pray that they will continue to stay strong, and always, always MORP.

  1. I’ve heard of prom alternatives before but never really thought about just inviting the girls to spend the day with you. I like the fact that it takes the pressure completely off of them concerning things like finding a date, finding a modest dress to wear, etc. I’m not sure if this was by design, but I like it! I am wondering if the young men of the congregation got together as well??

    • We don’t currently have any boys in high school so they didn’t have anything this year, but I don’t see why that wouldn’t work!
